Youths barge in CM’s convoy to avoid traffic

Tryst with speed landed two youths in police station as they allegedly joined Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's convoy on Thursday morning while the CM was on the way to Burari in north-west district. The duo allegedly refused to listen to police's instructions.

The incident took place in Mukharjee Nagar at around 11.15 am. CM was on her way to Burari to inaugurate a camp for pilgrims of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer.

'As her convoy reached Nirankari ground, a white i10 car suddenly weaved its way in, between CM's car and the escort vehicle. The personnel in the escort vehicles signalled the men in the car to give way, but they apparently did not pay heed to them. Later, they had to be forcefully stopped,' a senior police official said.

A PCR call was made and both of them were brought to the Mukherjee Nagar police station. They were questioned by officials of Intelligence Bureau and Special Cell, the official said. Experts from the bomb disposal squad also checked the vehicle.

Later, however, both of them were released by the police as they realised that it was just a freak incident committed unintentionally. They apparently were not aware of CM's convoy and had merely rushed in to dodge the traffic.

The youths were identified as Sameer, a private airline employee and Manish, a student. Both live in Mukherjee Nagar. Their car was confiscated by the police, but it was released later. According to the official, preliminary interrogation did not point towards any motives or clues that the youths deliberately joined the convoy.
