Youth who killed sister’s lover held

Central district police has claimed to have arrested a youth for killing a person in Azamgarh. The ‘Slum Panchayat’ operating in Anand Parbat area of Central Delhi helped in the arrest of the man, who was absconding from Uttar Pradesh after murdering his sister’s lover, police said.

Aslam [20] had allegedly murdered the youth in Azamgarh, UP, after he objected to his having a relationship with his sister. After killing the youth on 5 June, Aslam ran away from the place and came to Delhi.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said, Aslam was apprehended from Anand Parbat area on Saturday. He had allegedly murdered Rohit Singh along with his friends, in Azamgarh on 5 June and fled to Delhi to escape police.

‘Singh had a relationship with Aslam’s sister, which Aslam objected to. Despite repeated warnings, Singh remained in touch with his sister. Enraged on this, Aslam hatched a plan with Sadre Alam, Satosh, Rinku and Narender Singh to eliminate Singh,’ Srivastava said.

His arrest came after a member of ‘Slum Panchayat’, an initiative of central district for community policing, informed police that a suspected person was moving around in the area in suspicious circumstances and was in search of job and shelter.

‘He had scratches on his face and the community member further suspected that the person seems to be involved in some nefarious activity. Aslam was then brought to local police station on Saturday. He tried to misguide police saying that he got scratches on his body while swimming,’ Srivastva added.

But on sustained interrogation, he broke down and confessed to his involvement in the murder, Srivastava said.
