Youth stabbed to death in crowded market place

A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death by three persons at Northwest Delhi’s Subhash Place area on Sunday evening. Two of the three accused were identified till Monday evening and one of them was found to be a habitual offender in the area with around 12 criminal cases registered against him. However, they were yet to be arrested.

The deceased was identified as one Deepak, who worked as a clerk at a private office in Subhash Place and lived nearby. Within a few hours, two of the three accused in the case were identified as Appu — the habitual offender — and Shalu. The incident took place around 5.30 pm on Sunday, when Deepak witnessed Appu allegedly beating up a woman publicly, with his friends around, and tried to intervene. This led to an argument between Deepak and the accused trio. One of them suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Deepak several times, said a police official.

A shop owner in the crowded market, in which the incident took place, called up the police control room and reported the incident. The police reached the spot and rushed Deepak to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His family was informed ans body was sent for post-mortem examination.

The official investigating the case said that though there were many people apparently present near the spot during the incident, none of them claimed to have witnessed it. Later, the police got vital clues after monitoring CCTV footages obtained from several nearby premises. In no time, a team was formed to search for the accused trio.

“A case of murder has been registered and the police are still looking for the accused,” said <g data-gr-id="24">Gnana</g> Sambandan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West).
