Youth remanded to judicial custody for killing sex worker

A youth, who had shot dead an alleged sex worker for opposing his relationship with another woman, was on Monday remanded back in 13 days' judicial custody by a Delhi court.

Metropolitan Magistrate Saumya Chauhan sent back accused Munshi Ram Yadav to Tihar jail till March 30 after he was produced before the court on expiry of his earlier 14 days remand. ‘The accused (Yadav) is remanded to JC till March 30. He be produced from (Tihar) jail on March 30,’ the court said.

On 25 February, Yadav was sent to seven days of police custody as they wanted to take him to Saharsa in Bihar to find out source of the weapon used in the crime.

Earlier, police had sought Yadav's custody saying he had bought a country-made pistol from Bihar to kill the woman whom he allegedly shot twice on February 24 night near Sarai Kale Khan, close to the busy Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and a PCR van.

According to police, Yadav killed 25-year-old Pooja as she was against his relationship with another woman who was allegedly working under her as a sex worker. As Pooja was not allowing that woman to marry Yadav, he went to Bihar and bought a pistol and nine bullets to eliminate the victim, they said.

Police had told the court that seven bullets have been recovered from Yadav's possession.

He has been booked under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act. The accused was apprehended by some passers-by, when he was trying to escape from the spot after killing Pooja, and was handed over to police.
