Youth paralysed after torture by ‘cops’

Criminals or cops? The question has baffled the south Delhi police after a hair-raising incident of kidnapping and torture was reported in the area. Allegedly, a  group of five persons kidnapped three youths, took them to a godown somewhere on Delhi-Haryana border, tortured them for one whole night and then dumped them in a south Delhi jungle to die.

Reportedly, the victims were assaulted brutally and given electric shocks. One of them is almost paralysed waist down and is not even in a condition to narrate what happened.

Though the 24-year-old Parvez Ali remained tight-lipped, his father did narrate to

the grotesque tale of torture and  human rights violation.

‘My son screamed whole night. They undressed him, beat him up and forced him to urinate on a heater. They also gave him electric shocks and injected him with unknown substances. They then took away Rs 10,000 from him and threw him in a jungle,’ said a tearful Liyakat Ali, Parvez’s father.

Parvez is undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical sciences [AIIMS] and he is not sure where the  two other hostages are. He says the people who kidnapped them claimed they were cops.

The incident took place on the evening of 26 June. Parvez was returning home from work. He is a resident of Hauz Rani in south Delhi. While he was waiting for a vehicle around 4 pm, a white-colour Bolero came and stopped near him.

A person who was sitting next to the driver came out of the jeep and asked him for way to Gurgaon. He also offered a ride to Parvez, saying Hauz Rani would be on the way and they would take just Rs 10 as fare.

According to Liyakat, Parvez then entered the jeep only to be overpowered by the gun-wielding goons. They then muffled the faces of Pravez and the other two youths who were already inside the jeep.

After roaming around for an hour, they allegedly took the jeep to a construction site, somewhere on Delhi-Haryana border, and put the victims inside a godown.

‘They took my son into an air-conditioned room, which was fully equipped with many other facilities. They then started interrogating him like cops. Some police uniforms were also hanging inside the room, Parvez told his father. According to Parvez, the other hostages, one  of them called Yakub, were also kidnapped from south-east Delhi’s Okhla area. Yakub, a tailor by profession, told this to Parvez, while the third hostage remains unidentified.

The three youths were first put in three different rooms. But after some time, they were taken to a room and asked to remove their clothes. The ‘cops’ then questioned them about drug possession and injected them with something, said Liyakat.

The abductors then forced the trio to urinate on a heater and gave them electric shocks on private parts. ‘My son underwent physical assault the whole night,’ alleged the father.

Next afternoon, Parvez  found himself in a jungle of Vasant Kunj. Around 4 pm, with the help of some passersby, he somehow manged to reach  a government hospital in Malviya Nagar, where doctors referred him to AIIMS as his condition was critical.

‘He is not able to stand properly, his legs seem to be paralysed. They were definitely not cops though they pretended to be,’ said  Liyakat.

A complaint has been lodged at Vasant Kunj police station. Liyakat has also approached senior police officials and urged them to take the issue seriously. ‘I want justice, my son is innocent. Perhaps they were cops but they can’t go beyond a limit,’ said Parvez’s mother.
