Youth loses hand in botched suicide attempt

Alert commuters at the Patel Chowk metro station saved a 21-year-old man from ending his life when he jumped in front of an approaching train on Monday. However, the youth, Ritesh lost his left hand in the incident. According to the police, the incident took place at around 4.05 pm on platform number 1 of the Patel Chowk metro station when Ritesh jumped in front of a train. “Alert commuters swiftly pulled up Ritesh from the tracks and called in the Metro police who rushed him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was operated upon. His left hand had to be amputated,” said Metro police officials. Police said that Ritesh is a native of Bihar and was working as a labourer making tirpal (tarpaulin). He was living in Shahbad Dairy area. “No suicide note has been recovered from him,” said a Metro cop.
