Youth held with fake currency coins worth over Rs 55,000

Police have arrested a youth in Noida for circulating fake coins in local market on Sunday. It has also recovered 11,137 numbers of fake coins of five rupee denomination amounting to Rs 55,685.
The accused has been identified as Om Prakash (30) a native of Siwan district in Bihar, who was living temporarily at Deepak Vihar in the city.
According to police, on receiving a tip-off, they intercepted two bike borne suspects at Sector 62 in Noida on Saturday night. ‘They sped the bike and tried to run upon which the police officials chased them. Police caught Om Prakash while his associate and the main accused Ram Singh, managed to escape with the bike,’ said a police official.
Police said that the seized coins from Prakash amounts to over Rs 55,000.
Police also added that Prakash belongs to Bihar and he used to sell fruits in local market. He used to circulate fake currency in the market given by Ram Singh on a commission basis.
‘They used to get fake coins from Bihar and circulated in the NCR region. We are trying to reach the origin from where these coins were made,’ said a senior police official.
Police suspect more people would be involved in the crime. Meanwhile, a man hunt is on to arrest Ram Singh. ‘The gang’s members usually left the bag containing fake coins in local vegetables and fruit seller to cash it. We are keeping eyes on such markets to bust gangs,’ added the police official.
