Youth held for trying to rape Class X student

A youth has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a 16-year-old Class X student in Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi, police said on Thursday.

A senior police officer said that the youth has been identified as Shokeen.

The victim lives in the area along with her family and studies in a nearby government school. On Wednesday night, she was returning home after tuition when Shokeen stopped her.

‘He molested the victim and tried to rape her. She somehow escaped from his clutches and reached home and narrated the whole incident to her family members who decided to approach the file a complaint,’ police said.

A case has been registered and the accused has been arrested. The girl has been admitted to a nearby government hospital where she is undergoing treatment, police said.

Sources said that the youth had been stalking the girl since a long time.
