A 19-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly slitting his neighbour’s throat, who caught him cutting banana leaves from his garden on 6 November, in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Sujit Kumar was arrested on Friday by the staff of Geeta Colony Police Station. He was absconding since 6 November, when the incident took place.
According to police, the victim – Govind Mehto (23) – was standing in the verandah of his Geeta Colony residence around 3 pm on 6 November, when he suddenly noticed someone trying to cut banana leaves from the small garden outside his house. He objected to it and soon the victim and the accused entered into a heated argument.
‘In a fit of rage, Sujit Kumar allegedly slit Mehto's neck with a kitchen knife – with which he was trying to cut the banana leaves – and fled from the spot. The victim was rushed to the Max Hospital at Patparganj, where he was declared dead on arrival,’ said Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East).
The victim's body was immediately sent for a post mortem examination after which it was handed over to the family members.
'Several raids were conducted at the residence and all possible hide-outs of the accused and finally he was arrested yesterday. The weapon of offence, that is a kitchen knife, and blood stained cloth have been recovered too,' said Ajay Kumar. He further said, the accused has been booked under section 302 (murder) of IPC.
