Youth held for double rape bid on minor in central Delhi

A 21-year old man was arrested on Sunday for attempting to rape an eight year old girl in central Delhi.

The police said that the incident occurred on Saturday evening, when the accused, identified as Mohammad Asghar, lured the victim after he found her playing alone near her house. The accused was said to have lived in a rented accommodation in the same neighbourhood as the minor girl.

The victim, a student in a government school, was playing alone near her home when Asghar, who works in a private bag manufacturing unit, took her to a deserted spot nearby. ‘When he tried to rape the girl, she began shouting which forced him to abandon her and flee the spot’, a senior police official said.

The victim managed to run and rushed back home. She narrated her ordeal to her mother. Her family members immediately approached the Nabi Karim police station and lodged a formal complaint against the accused.

‘The victim informed the police that the accused had also attempted a similar act against her five days ago when she was playing near her house. The accused used to play with the girl’, the official added. The police arrested Asghar on Sunday morning from his hideout as he was on run after the incident.
