Youth hangs self in Ghaziabad, family alleges police harassment

A 25-year-old man hanged himself in the Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad on Friday morning. The youth’s family has alleged that harassment by police drove him to take this extreme step.
According to the family members, Sukhbir, a resident of Rajiv Colony, committed suicide owing to repeated harassment by the police.
His younger brother, Ravi, a student of BBA in Delhi had a dispute over money with some people in the colony and had been involved in a fight a week ago, following which, the men with whom his brother had a fight with, registered a case of robbery. Ravi has been absconding since then.
Meanwhile, police picked up Sukhbir several times for investigation and slapped a case of smuggling against him a few days back.
Police has sent Sukhbir’s body for post-mortem. 'We are investigating into the matter and action will be taken if anybody is found guilty,' said S S Yadav, superintendent of police, Ghaziabad City.
