Youth beaten to death, locals block Outer Ring Road

A 25-year-old youth was allegedly battered to death while his friend suffered serious injuries when they were beaten by unidentified youth in North-west Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area on Thursday evening.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Irfan, had gone with his friend on a motorcycle to a liquor shop near his house in the Swaroop Nagar area when he allegedly entered into a heated verbal argument with the accused.
Police said that the argument escalated into a scuffle where the accused allegedly started thrashing Irfan and his friend. Meanwhile, sources said that locals had blocked the Outer Ring Road on Friday morning and placed Irfan’s body on the road. This reportedly happened for a few minutes. Sources also said that the senior police officers of the North-west district reached the spot and pacified the angry locals. Traffic was also disrupted because of this at the Outer Ring Road especially at the Mukarba Chowk.
Police said that the incident had took place at around 5 pm on Thursday. While the group of unidentified youth thrashed both Irfan and his friends, Irfan collapsed on the spot. After which, the accused fled from the spot. Eyewitnesses present at the spot made a PCR call after which both Irfan and his friend were taken to a nearby hospital where Irfan was declared dead on admission while his friend is undergoing treatment, said a police officer. According to an investigating officer, they are scanning through the CCTV footage of the crime spot to establish the exact sequence of events as well as to ascertain the identity of the accused. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the Swaroop Nagar police station against unknown persons. Further investigation is still on.
