Young golfers take big leap

After a heavy rain in the capital on Tuesday, the Army Golf Club course was looking much greener and lively. The young golfers were looking charged up and fresh, thanks to drop in temperature. A total of 96 golfers are participating in the USHA IGU Delhi Junior Golf Championship, including 50 players from IGU order of merit.
It is an opportunity for young golfers to improve their ranking. And in a country like India, where cricket still rules supreme, making a career in golf would be a hard task. But the participants were optimistic about their future prospect. Siddhant Lohia (15), who has been playing golf since past four years, feels golf is gaining popularity.‘I was introduced to this sports by my parents and I have participated in various tournament before.’ When asked about how a young player can prepare, his coach, Mohammed Maqbool said, ‘A young golfer needs to have regular practice sessions and their swing should be checked according to the situation of the golf course on a given day. He should also learn to read the condition of the grass and wind of a golf course properly.’
