You don’t have to pay more to buy an AC this summer

The Delhi government has stated in plain words that ‘there is no move to make any hike on the value added tax
(VAT) being presently levied on the sale of the air-conditioners in the capital city’. Additional commissioner of VAT Rajesh Mangla clarified that Delhi government has no plan to increase VAT on the air-conditioners. This had been indicated also by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at the annual plan meeting for the city at the Planning Commission last Friday.

The Chief Minister said that there has been a huge spurt in sales of air-conditioners whereas that of inverters was dipping as power supply has become more reliable. The government feels that air-conditioners have become a necessity in the present scorching heat, hence, there is no ground to increase the rate of VAT.

The government further stated that all the speculations have been rested, hence, people are advised not to be carried away by misleading reports.
