You are not alone Gurgaon… Delhi is choked too

Incessant rainfalls brought Delhi to a standstill on Friday as traffic went haywire in several parts of the national Capital. The day started with a cloudy morning and people thought that to be a respite from the heat but the weather had some other plans. It was not much before it started raining and left office-goers stranded due to waterlogging and potholes added to their woes.

Waterlogging coupled with Kanwariya processions brought the city to a screeching halt at several arterial roads like Azad Market in North Delhi and national highways like NH-24. Advising Delhi commuters to avoid taking NH-8, Delhi Traffic Police tweeted: “There is traffic jam on NH-8 near Hero Honda Chowk, Gurgaon. Motorists going from Delhi to Gurgaon are advised to avoid NH-8.”

Likewise, in Lutyen’s Delhi, traffic was reportedly heavy at Bhinder Point and Tughlaq Road due to a programme on the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

Friday left office-goers high and dry with people taking to social networking sites as the last day of the week started with morning showers which further slowed down traffic on the arterial roads of the city. The traffic mayhem was further more prominent in the afternoon at ITO, Badarpur flyover and other parts.

According to senior police officers of the Delhi Traffic Police, incessant rainfall led to potholes which further aggravated the traffic situation on both the carriageways of the Ring Road from AIIMS to Moti Bagh.

Meanwhile, waterlogging causing traffic snarls was reported from places in Central Delhi such as Karol Bagh Metro station towards Pusa Road, from IP flyover towards Sarai Kale Khan. In West Delhi, traffic snarls due to waterlogging were reported from Mundka Metro station towards Rajdhani Park Metro station.

Waterlogging also caused much displeasure at Bhartal Chowk on Dwarka Link Road, Wazirabad Road, Apsara roundabout, Mandoli and Rajokri flyover, said the traffic police.

On the other hand, Delhi Traffic Police kept posting traffic updates on their Facebook and Twitter pages for commuters since morning. Later in the afternoon, traffic was reported to be moving at a snail’s pace at Pamposh Enclave, under Savitri Flyover, under Chirag Delhi Flyover and under Modi Mill flyover.
