Yogendra Yadav asks EC for revision of electoral rolls

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gurgaon candidate Yogendra Yadav on Sunday alleged that opposition parties have tried to lure voters by indulging in electoral malpractices. Though action has been taken against the officers caught red-handed on camera, Yadav has urged the EC for a summary revision of electoral rolls, as the sting operation had only revealed the tip of the iceberg.

He cautioned voters about a systematic attempt to rig elections through money, liquor and other fraudulent methods by opponents. He said, ‘I welcome prompt action by the EC against the three corrupt officers. But I believe the rot is too widespread and entrenched. Since it is the EC’s mandate to conduct free and fair polls, it needs to urgently check and eliminate bogus voting and registration of fake voters.’

Yadav said that AAP volunteers and well wishers have received several complaints about a very high number of bogus votes in Gurgaon. He said it looks like a well-organised racket being run at the behest of politicians, who are deeply entrenched in electoral malpractices.

‘Several bogus voters have been assigned to addresses where old couples are living or against flats where owners don’t reside throughout the year. Some of these people are too scared to complain even after detecting bogus votes. He said one such couple in Heritage City approached the electoral officer, visiting their locality, and expressed their inability to do anything about it at this ‘late’ stage’, Yadav said.

Yadav said that the phenomenon was comprehensively exposed in a sting operation organised by a national TV news channel, where several government officials were willing to include names of thousands of bogus voters in electoral rolls in return for cash payments.

He also announced the setting up of an AAP Poll Monitoring Cell, for any citizen to report electoral frauds and incidents of bribery by contacting the party, via email at, [email protected] or SMS to 9650130690.
