Yoga is a science that aims at harmonious development of the body, mind & soul: Naidu

The NDMC officials said that as many as 12,000 participants performed the common protocol Yoga and the programme was started at 6 am where yoga by all participants was started at 7 am and went up to 7.45 am. Meanwhile, several diplomats also indulged in Yoga practice at Nehru Park.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu said that yoga is a perfect practical system of self-culture and an exact science which aims at the harmonious development of the body, mind and soul. The Minister said that the body is but a temporary manifestation of the Self. The real Self is always there, blissful and unchangeable.

 He added that to realise this, to identify with the blissful self is Yoga. Yoga is not a religion, it is a way of living in which the aim is to attain “a healthy mind in a healthy body”.

Lieutinant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung in his address said that the whole world is looking 
towards India and Yoga has crossed the boundaries and had been popularised in overseas. 

Member of Parliament from New Delhi, Meenakashi Lekhi said that Yoga is a part of our traditional preventive healthcare measure since the ancient days and added that it is an ancient physical and spiritual discipline and branch of philosophy and our lifestyle.

In order to promote Yoga and general well being of the citizen, the Chairman, NDMC Naresh Kumar said that the NDMC is committed to popularise yoga in its schools and New Delhi area.
 
The Yoga programme would be continued on a regular basis in the morning hours at its main gardens for this purpose.
