Yet another Bansal kin arrested

Yet another relative of railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal was apprehended on Tuesday by Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) for his involvement in the note-for-post scam.

Ajay Garg had surrendered in a Delhi court after which his custody was given to the CBI. He is the eighth accused in the case and is a close aide of Vijay Singla.

Ajay Garg owns the multi-crore IEC Gensets Limited – one of the major suppliers of electrical equipments to Indian Railways and Delhi Public Schools. His phone calls were also recorded by the CBI as part of their ongoing investigations.

Ajay Garg is a resident of Sector 6, Panchkula. The company owned by Garg, IEC Gensets Limited reportedly has a turnover of Rs 2000 million and has its units in Derabassi, Punjab; Barwala, Haryana and Kathua, Jammu.

Besides railways, Garg’s company is also a supplier of Diesel Generating Sets, MV equipments and LT panels to NHPC, NTPC, IRCON, Indian Army, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and HSIIDC.

The CBI on Friday had arrested the nephew of the Railway Minister for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 90 lakh to fix a top railway appointment. The bribe was paid to him by two people for getting a senior railway officer, Mahesh Kumar, appointed as a member of the powerful Railway Board. Kumar was eyeing the post of Member (Electrical) in the board.

Businessman Vijay Singla, who is the son of Bansal's sister, was arrested from an upcoming mall in Chandigarh’s Sector 28, where he had allegedly gone to pick up the bribe.
