Interestingly, it was a fallout with his bosses (Bhatkal brothers) that resulted in his arrest, as stated in a Millennium Post report in 21 November titled ‘Yasin Bhatkal felt let down by IM bosses’. Bhatkal sought revenge on the matter and helped cops nab Tehsin.
On Tuesday, Delhi police Special Cell claimed to have arrested Tehsin Akhtar from Indo-Nepal border after Waqas, Pakistani IM terrorist (arrested) gave clues to investigators. However, a highly placed source, who is a senior officer in the security establishment said, ‘Yasin Bhatkal had a grudge against Bhatkal brothers, Riyaz and Iqbal, who sidelined his participation in terror strikes after including Tehsin into the mix.’
By late 2011, Tehseen had replaced Yasin in carrying out terror operations. While Tehsin and Haider Ali became the new faces of IM, Yasin was asked to hide in Nepal and motivate youths to join operations. ‘After Mumbai serial blasts, Bhatkal brothers had given all the responsibility to Tehsin,’ the officer added. Another reason to hand over the command of operations to Tehsin is said to be the availability of more terrorists in his group compared to Yasin’s.
Yasin told investigators about Tehsin’s involvement in several terror strikes and also revealed operations that are supposed to be executed in the near future. After Patna serial blasts during Narendra Modi’s rally, Tehsin’s name appeared as the mastermind behind terror strikes.
‘Apart from being the acting chief of IM, Tehsin, has emerged as the single most important link between the IM and certain independent splinter groups, which have emerged from the SIMI stable,’ SN Shrivasatav, special commissioner (special cell) said.
‘Tehsin shifted to Ranchi in 2011 with the assistance of Haider Ali, alias Abdullah. Haider was good friends with SIMI operative Manzer Imaman (arrested by NIA) who helped him find a suitable hideout in the city. From this spot Tehsin developed relations with SIMI and other terror outfits’, source said. Haider Ali was made chief of IM’s Ranchi module.
Tehsin stayed there under a Hindu name and used to put tilak on his forehead. He would teach little kids in the locality and introduced himself as a student to obtain cover.
Waqas, Monu trained IM men in Rajasthan: Police tell court
New Delhi: Suspected top Indian Mujahideen operatives Waqas and Tehsin Akhtar alias Monu stayed for a month in Rajasthan where they trained others in carrying out terror strikes, police told a court here.
‘A few months back, Waqas along with Monu visited Jaipur and Jodhpur and imparted IED manufacturing training to members of the IM, namely Saquib, Maruf and Waqar, for carrying out terrorist activities,’ police told Additional Sessions Judge Daya Prakash while seeking remand of Waqas on Saturday.
Police said Waqar was arrested from Ajmer railway station on a tip-off, when he was going to Jaipur for assigning these members the task of carrying out terror strikes. Police are analysing data from laptops and mobile phones seized from the accused.
Waqas, a Pakistani national, was arrested from Rajasthan. After his interrogation, police arrested Waqar Azhar, Mohammad Mahroof and Saquib Ansari.
