‘Yasin Bhatkal felt let down by IM bosses’

Sources in the special cell of Delhi police revealed that Yasin was sidelined by the terror group’s top honcho Riaz Bhatkal after the 2011 Mumbai blasts.

Yasin executed several IM terror attacks, which claimed over 150 lives. However, on instructions from Riaz, he was kept out of every operation post-2011.

The source added, ‘After Mumbai serial blasts in July 2011 at Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and Kabutarkhana, which left 26 killed and 130 injured, Yasin’s name came into limelight. He became the most wanted terrorist and his photographs in different looks were made public by several investigative agencies. Fearing exposure, the terror group’s bosses decided to “withdraw” Yasin, which did not go down well with him.’

By late 2011, Tehseen Akhtar, a wanted IM operative for the serial blasts in Modi’s Patna rally, had replaced Yasin in carrying out terror operations. While Tehseen and Haider Ali became the new faces of IM, Yasin was asked to hide in Nepal and motivate youths to join operations.

Another reason to hand over the command of operations to Tehseen is said to be the availability of more terrorists in his group, compared to Yasin’s. Haider Ali was made chief of IM’s Ranchi module.

Tehsin had actively participated in the procurement of explosives, assembling of IED and execution of blasts in Patna (October 2013), Bodh Gaya (July 2013) and Hyderabad’s Dilkush Nagar blast (February 2013).
