Yasin Bhatkal, aide sent to 7-day police custody

The Delhi police had sought time for their custodial interrogation in the attack case. Additional sessions judge Daya Prakash allowed the police’s plea and sent both the accused to seven days custody.

However, advocate MS Khan, appearing for both Bhatkal and Akhtar, opposed the plea saying his clients have been in custody for a long time. ‘Remand should not be granted only in the name of national security as Bhatkal and Akhtar have no more information left with them to disclose to the investigators,’ Khan argued.

The police told the court that on 19 September, 2010, two bikers had fired upon tourists outside Jama Masjid gate in Old Delhi area and two Taiwan citizens, Ku-Ze-Wei and Ko-Chiange, had sustained bullet injuries whereas a bomb was fitted in a car parked in the area. Police said, ‘Two accused are required for questioning for their alleged involvement in the case in which police found a pressure cooker bomb planted in a car, which failed to explode because of some circuit issues.’
