Worried about FYUP, thousands attend DU’s open house session

The impact of the CBSE class XII results which were announced on Monday was visible in the numbers that  flocked to the conference hall of Delhi University’s South Campus, where the  second-last open house session was being held to address queries on the university’s Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).

With the Board results out, and the pressure for admission to colleges mounting, Wednesday’s open house saw more than a 1,000 students flocking to the conference hall, making it the most crowded open house session yet.

Worried students, along with their parents, actively participated in the open house session, as they tried to get their queries about the FYUP answered by university officials.

A few  students and parents seemed more keen on asking questions about the implementation of the new FYUP rather than clearing their doubts about the admission procedure. But many students had to leave the conference hall disappointed, as their questions couldn’t be answered in the limited time of the open house.

Payal Sharma, a  B.Tech aspirant said that she had wanted to know if the B.Tech courses offered by DU have been approved by All India Councils for Technical Education (AICTE) , ‘but failed to get a response from the officials’.  Sushil, an anxious parent , looking to get his son admitted to Commerce (Honours) wanted to know if it was compulsory to study all foundation courses offered by DU.

Suchitra Gupta, deputy dean of Student Welfare said, ‘Candidates who wish to be considered for admission to various under-graduate courses in different colleges of the University  for which there are no entrance exams are required to register either online or offline by completing available OMR forms  and submitting them at the various admission centres in Delhi’.

On other hand, where open house session of DU was going, Simultaneously Students’ Federation of India along with teachers organised a ‘Open Day’ in North Campus.
