Eight people have been injured after a car smashed into pedestrians outside the central train station in Amsterdam. Witnesses have described the scene as "terrifying".
Amsterdam police say the car struck pedestrians outside the city's main railway station and officers have arrested the driver. Amsterdam police have said there is "no indication whatsoever" the car incident is an extremist attack.
Detectives have said that the driver was parked in a place where he wasn't allowed to stop and drove off when approached by police on Saturday and ran into a wall. Police sources told the Telegraph the driver became unwell and "did not intend" to crash the car.
Dutch police tweeted that the driver: 'Did not seem to go deliberately but [was] incapacitated'. A black Peugeot came to a standstill at the entrance to the metro station and reportedly has a crack in the windscreen.
It received immediate widespread attention after several extremist attacks in Europe over the past year involving vehicles, including one in London last week.
The first images from the Amsterdam incident area showed a major police presence around the railway station with first aid responders treating one person.
Two of the wounded were transported to hospital and three people were treated on the spot, according to reports.
The station remained open following the incident, although the entrance near the site of the crash was closed. Tram traffic has now resumed.
It is just a week since the London Bridge attack which saw the attackers drive into people on the bridge people leaving the vehicle and attacking bystanders with knives. Security Services in the Netherlands has been on high alert since the attack.
On Friday, a concert in Eindhoven was extended by thirty minutes because there was suspicious behavior of a man outside the stadium.
