United Kingdom police arrest two terror suspects

Two terror suspects were dragged from a car and had automatic weapons pointed at them in a dramatic raid in Birmingham.

A man and a woman, aged 21 and 23, were arrested in the West Midlands city on suspicion of preparing for terrorist acts in a spectacular public arrest in broad daylight.

It was witnessed by passers-by, who said police shouted at the suspects to get on the floor and pulled them from a red Ford Fiesta they had blocked in.

Officers also searched five homes and a business property in the Alum Rock area of the city as part of the operation days after a string of stings forming part of the Westminster attack investigation took place.

A member of the public whipped out his phone to film the arrests after he heard cars screeching to a half on Farndon Road where he happened to be working.

Speaking anonymously to the Birmingham Mail, he said: 'I could hear a car door being opened very fast so my instincts told me to go and have a look.

"I got there and I saw the police and they were in various cars. Some of them were in a plain white van. There was an unmarked police car at the front and back of a red Ford Fiesta car. The police got out of the van and cars and started shouting. They started shouting to get down on the floor, then they dragged the occupant out of the car and on to the floor," he said.
