Senators take partisan punches at 8-hour Ford-Kavanaugh hearing

WASHINGTON DC: An enraged Sen. Lindsey Graham blasted Thursday's confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as "the most despicable thing I have seen in my time in politics."

His voice rising with anger, the South Carolina Republican ripped into Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee, accusing them of destroying Kavanaugh's life for political gain, "to hold this seat and hope you win in 2020." To Kavanaugh, Graham cynically said, "You're looking for a fair process – you came to the wrong town, my friend."

Graham's outburst late in the eight-hour hearing was one of the most tense exchanges during a day filled with drama, emotion and partisan sniping, all playing out before a live national television audience.

The day's most riveting moments were provided by the hearing's star witnesses – psychology researcher and professor Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh himself.

Describing herself as "terrified," Ford told the committee she is "100 percent" certain that Kavanaugh assaulted her at a party in Maryland more than three decades ago.
