Kissinger for US, Russia co-op to resolve Middle East crisis

Describing Middle East as the "coffin" of the international order, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger on Friday favoured a partnership between the US and Russia to bring in equilibrium in the Middle East.

Kissinger, an acclaimed writer and political scientist, also said President Donald Trump needs to define the US role in order to answer concerns that it has given up some of its global leadership role.

Talking through a video link from the US with the WEF audience here, Kissinger said the traditional global order is disintegrating and new players from Asia and developing world are coming in.

According to him, Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at Davos came as an assertion by China to rebuild this international economic order.

On what advice he would give to Trump, he said the President would have to find where the US can help and gain from creation of a new international order. About how he would like the US relationship with Russia to evolve, Kissinger said Trump has indicated that he would prefer a less confrontational and more political approach.
