Man kills 'mother, sister' in Paris knife attack, ISIS claims responsibility

Paris: A man stabbed two people, reportedly his mother and sister, and wounded a third person on a street in a Paris suburb before being killed by the police.

The Interior Ministry said that the victims were relatives of the man and the police were looking into reports of it being a family quarrel, the BBC reported.

According to some reports, the man threatened to kill the police and shouted "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic) during the assault, which occurred in Trappes, a commune in the Yvelines department to the southwest of the French capital.

The attacker was later neutralised by the police and they are investigating the motives behind the attack, reported The Washington Post.

Meanwhile, the terrorist outfit Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has come forward to take the responsibility for the attack.

The Islamic State's Amaq news agency claimed that the attacker was one of the "fighters for the Islamic State."

Referring to the countries fighting the IS, they further announced that the attack was in response to "calls to target the coalition."

However, they have not provided any proof of their claim and the police are investigating all the possible motives of the attacker.

"Police operation completed," said the Yvelines regional prefect in a tweet. "An individual was neutralized and killed. Assessment of the victims: 2 people dead, one seriously injured," it added.

France's Interior Minister Gérard Collomb expressed his condolence to the victims and their families and thanked the police for their response and also took to twitter to say, "the individual has been neutralized. My first thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. I want to salute the reactivity and the exemplary mobilization of our police forces. They are already investigating to establish the circumstances of this tragedy."

This attack comes after IS released an audio from the organisation leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi who was supposedly killed last year.
