Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery: A historical and fine art treasure
Birmingham: The city of Birmingham has a beautiful heritage with the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery as its centrepiece. The museum, set to reopen after a four-year renovation project, was created as an initiative for personal exhibitions but today, it is famous for its own identity. The international collection of the museum and art gallery, designed by Yeoville Thomason, began its journey in 1885 with the help of the Prince of Wales. Not only art, natural history and archaeology have been carefully preserved inside this museum. The construction cost of this British art gallery was 10,000 pounds. However, it was damaged during the Second World War and was subsequently rebuilt. Over time, donations have accumulated for this historical treasure. At present, its maintenance costs stand at around £400,000 while the annual income of the art gallery is about £100,000. The era has changed. The museum and the art gallery have shifted from ceramics to metal iron. New displays will be on show in nearly a dozen reimagined spaces, with an updated shop and tearoom.
It houses the Round Room gallery that has displayed art for almost 150 years. The Bridge Gallery’s Modern Muse selection is a series of photographic portraits. The beauty of Indian art and culture has also been spread in Birmingham city. The Big Brum in Chamberlain Square keeps the live art while the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery shines with historical elements. The museum, next to Birmingham City Council House, closed in 2020 for building work but partially reopened in 2022 for the Commonwealth Games.
