Las Ramblas: The major tourist boulevard has been evacuated after a suspect package was found on the street.
A government official confirmed an incident is ongoing after an item was found on a bus in the area.
Video posted online shows tourists and residents being rushed from the area, which was cordoned off.
One social media user said: "They evacuated the metro, railways and shops at Pl. Catalunya. "Suspicious package on a bus. Are evacuated for security." She later added: "The are has been re-opened. False alarm."
Officials confirmed the situation had been stood down.
Local police tweeted: "The suspect object of the Pelai street was a backpack with personal effects. In short, normality will be restored in the area."
It comes after 15 people died during two attacks in or near Barcelona on Thursday.
Thirteen died after being hit by the van in Las Ramblas, another died when a suspect stabbed him during his getaway, and another died in the nearby town of Cambrils during a second ram attack. the pavement and drove towards crowds.
