How can policemen perform efficiently if they are not provided proper accommodation, Delhi High Court said on Thursday as it observed that repairs of police officers’ flats in South West Delhi was going on at a “snail’s pace”.
Justice Rajiv Shakdher made the observations after perusing the minutes of meetings held by a panel set up to monitor and expedite the progress of the repair and renovation work. After going through the minutes of around 11 meetings held since June 10 last year, the court observed, “It is clear that work is progressing at snail’s pace as only 25 per cent work has been completed”.
“How will these officers work efficiently if not given proper accommodation,” it asked. It also said the presence of a representative of the Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD) has had no impact on the speed of the work which was expected to be completed expeditiously. As the lawyer for PWD could not explain the reason for delay in completing the work, the court directed the civic agency to file an affidavit indicating the time frame within which the repair and renovation would be finished.
