Work on parallel bridge at Okhla barrage to begin today

The construction of a six-lane parallel bridge at the Okhla barrage will start on Monday. The parallel bridge is expected to provide relief to thousands of commuter who travel between Delhi, Noida and Faridabad daily.

The move is aimed to reduce traffic burden on existing bridge as more than two lakh vehicles ply daily.
The 574-meter long bridge will be constructed at the cost of Rs 119 crore,  and will come on fringe of Delhi-Noida border. The entire project is likely to be completed within two years. According to the proposed plan, the bridge will have separate pedestrian pathways and cycle track on each side. The proposal for a parallel bridge was made nearly three years ago, as an agreement between Noida
Authority and Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited, which built DND Flyway.

Since DND became operational in February 2001, the agreement expired in 2011. This allowed the authority to take up the project on priority and it gave the green signal to the new bridge.

‘The existing Kalindi Kunj Bridge is narrow while the vehicular volume is on constant rise. Once, the bridge will be operational, it will drastically reduce the traffic burden. As we have put the project on fast track, our effort will be to complete the project with in scheduled time period,’ said Yadav Singh, engineer-in-chief of the authority.
