While talking to Millennium Post, Girri said that union human resource development minister Smriti Irani has assured that construction work of IP varsity’s East Campus will start after laying the foundation stone by 15 October. ‘The HRD minister has a very busy schedule, still she has assured to lay the foundation stone of the East Campus by 15 October,’ Girri told Millennium Post over phone.
Giving details about the meeting that he had with HRD minister, Girri said, ‘Since opening of East Campus of IP University was at the top in its poll agenda, I urged minister to help in starting the work at the earliest. The HRD minister assured to start the work soon in the best interest of students of the area.’
‘The campus will come up in the Surajmal Vihar, which is under the Viswas Nagar assembly constituency. A fund of Rs 250 crore has been allotted for its development in the Delhi Budget presented by finance minister Arun Jaitley,’ Girri stated.
Blaming previous government of putting the project on back burner, Girri, who is also an Art of Living faculty and a former international director of the Art of Living Foundation, said, ‘Due to the laxity of Congress government, the project got delayed, but since education is our top most priority, we took the matter with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung soon after taking oath as member of lower house.’
The university plans to develop two model campuses — one in West Delhi (Dwarka), which has been developed and the other in East Delhi (Surajmal Vihar) for which 17 acre land has already been acquired and the architects appointed.
While Indian Institute of Information and Technology would be set up in the East Campus, all other schools of the university would be housed in the West Campus.
