Delhi PWD Minister Satyender Jain on Monday said the construction work on the third phase of Barapullah elevated corridor is running three months behind schedule due to several hurdles.
Jain, who on Monday visited the site of the project, said work is getting affected due to some issues with a land spreading over 5-6 acres near Yamuna.
“DDA had allotted this land to us but later it de-notified it, saying that it is a private land, which is causing a delay in the project. We are in talks with the landowner to reach a final conclusion,” the minister said.
He said two electricity lines are also passing over the site of the project which is also a major hurdle coming in its way.
“In view of hot weather, we have decided to defer the shifting of these electric lines for now as it will lead to a power shortage in the nearby areas. We will shift these two lines in winter so that people won’t have to face problems,” Jain added.
The third phase of the corridor, from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar, is likely to be completed by December next year. With its completion, the travel time for motorists driving between East and South Delhi will shrink to less than an hour.
Giving further details about the project, the minister said that government has also proposed to build a jogging track on the side of Barapullah Elevated Road.
“By building a jogging track, it will be very helpful to the people from the health point of view,” Jain said, adding that solar panels will be installed on the poles at the jogging track.
The commissioning of phase-III would reduce distance between East Delhi, Mayur Vihar, Noida and South along with other parts of Delhi resulting in a big relief to the commuters and saving of fuel and valuable time.
With the completion of this project, travel time from East Delhi to AIIMS will be reduced to 10 minutes.
