Work it out this summer

This summer, there seems to be no time to remain idle and laze on the couch. A couple of summer workshops that are taking place in the city and NCR takes care of the idle hours that you might have a tough time spending otherwise.

Organised at the India Habitat Centre and Epicentre, the workshops promise to keep both children and adults engaged.

Aimed at enhancing creative skills, there will be Doodle Cool art camp, origami, creative writing, and screenplays for children. Then there is object theatre (where you take a prop as a character / situation), muppetry, carpentry, space odyssey, science detectives (like detecting fingerprints), Happy Minds (creative writing and other creative skills like scripting), and Edventures (learning mapping skills) which present a plethora of opportunities. Adults can sign up for the art appreciation course at Habitat. There will  also be Indian classical music, a finishing school workshop where you learn grooming and etiquettes and more at Epicentre.

This year, the capital too will get a taste of The Pomegranate Workshop. 'We want to give children a chance to use their imagination and encourage them to learn new forms of art,' says Akshat Nigam, director, The Pomegranate Workshop. 'Kids come here and do something entirely different. They decide what to do, we show them how to do,' he adds.

For those who have an ear for classical music and would want to expand their horizons, Manjari Sinha and Sarathi Chatterji's day-long 'Introduction to Indian Classical Music' is replete with live demonstrations as well as AV presentations. At the same time, the art appreciation course, a weekend course by art historian Seema Malhotra doesn't ask for any prior knowledge and will introduce the meaning and development of Western art.

With all aspects of intellectual stimulation taken care of, beauty and fitness can obviously not be absent in today's milieu. Little Yogis is a yoga camp for kids. There are also workshops including make-up, dressing, dining, diet and nutrition for adults.

Manish Sachdeva is conducting muppetry at the workshop. 'We will introduce kids to puppets, help them make some on their own and help them use the puppets to create a story,' says Sachdeva. It sure looks like a happy summer.
