A case of murder has been registered against the accused, but no arrests have been made so far.
The woman was identified as Sunita Devi. She was a house wife and belonged to one of the families involved in the conflict, said a police official. He further said the incident was reported at around 10 pm on Thursday, when locals made a call to the police control room about the ongoing fight between two groups.
‘Around 10 people from each group had received injuries, out of which six were grievously injured. The police took the injured to the hospital for treatment. However, one woman later succumbed to her injuries during treatment,’ said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).
He further said the deceased woman had not apparently suffered any major external injury. The internal injury must have led to her death as she was reportedly hit hard by the accused, the officer said. Her body has been sent for post-mortem and police is waiting for the report to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
‘We have identified the accused and they will be arrested soon. Some of the accused got injured during the scuffle and are still in hospital. They will be arrested as soon as they are discharged,’ Singh added.
As narrated by an investigating officer, at around 9 pm on Thursday, children from both the families were bursting crackers in front of their residences, during which an argument took place among them. Later, one of them reported the matter to his parents, who went to the other family and started an argument, which later turned violent.
‘Both the groups first exchanged blows and then started throwing bricks and stones at each other until the cops arrived to control the situation,’ said the investigating officer.
He further informed, the families have often fought with each other in the past. Around five months ago, they had fought over some trivial issue and police had to be called to resolve the matter.
