A 25-year-old married woman was shot dead in Sarai Kale Khan area of south-east Delhi late on Sunday evening. The accused was nabbed by passersby and handed over to the Delhi police.
According to the police, the incident took place around 7.30 pm, when the victim, Puja, was travelling on a motorcycle with her hubsand. A car stopped near them and a few people tried to pull her in.
When she resisted, one of the assailants shot her in the head. While others managed to escape, the one who shot her was nabbed by a few passersby.
‘The accused, identified as Munshi Yadav, hails from Bihar and is a resident of north-east Delhi,’ a police official said. Puja was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where she succumbed to her injuries. Yadav told police that he knew the couple well.
Ajay Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (south-east), said there is a possibility of personal enmity. ‘We have recovered a country-made pistol and seven live cartridges,’ he added.
‘One more person has been detained, who is being questioned at Sunlight Colony police station,’ the official added. A case under the section -302 (murder) has been booked against Yadav.
