‘Woman killed for creating problems in relationship’

Personal animosity was the reason behind the gunning down of a 25-year-old woman near the Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminal here, as she was allegedly creating problems in the relationship between the assailant and her friend, police said on Monday.

Pooja, a resident of Bhajanpura in east Delhi, was standing near the Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminal in south Delhi when she was shot Sunday night. She was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where she died of bullet injuries. People around her nabbed the attacker and handed him over to police.

Police sources said Monday that the shooter was a man named Munshi Yadav, who was allegedly upset with her as she was creating problems in his relationship with her friend Kiran.

‘Munshi Yadav, who murdered the woman, wanted to marry Kiran, a friend of Pooja. He said Pooja was creating hurdles in the relationship, which had led to arguments several times,’ a police official said.

According to police, Pooja was accompanied by her live-in partner Mohan at the time. She had a heated argument with Yadav, after which he shot her.

Earlier, police said that Yadav was accompanied with another man named Rehman. However, later they said that the attacker was alone.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary: ‘Yadav knew the victim for the last one year and they had an argument at victim’s house Sunday afternoon over the issue.’

In the evening, Pooja accompanied with Kiran and Mohan came at Sarai Kale Khan. Yadav also arrived there and an argument started between Pooja and Mohan, he said.

In the meantime, Yadav opened fire on Puja with a home-made pistol which he procured from his native place Saharsa in Bihar ten days back.

The weapon has been recovered from his possession, officer said.
