Woman held for peddling, heroin worth crores seized

The Crime Branch arrested a 45-year-old woman with heroin worth Rs 2.5 crore from Seelampur in north-east Delhi, police said on Monday.

She was caught while going to sell the contraband to a customer. ‘The accused has been identified as Fehmida, a resident of Jhuggi cluster of Seelampur,’ said Sanjay Kumar Jain, deputy commissioner of police [Crime].

The Crime Branch team had laid a trap on Sunday evening and arrested the woman near ISBT-Seelampur flyover.

She was accompanied by her son-in-law, identified as Motia. She disclosed that she never went to school due to poor financial condition of her family, as her father had passes away due to cancer when she was 10 years old. ‘At 15, she was married to one Salim, who later died due to alcoholism. Her brother Akram, a drug addict himself, then introduced her to the ‘trade’.

Fehmida started selling smack after procuring the same from one Laloo Pehalwan. In 1995, she got married to one Sabir Chaudhary. One of Sabir’s brothers, Shamim alias Bhagat, was shot down by a criminal, who in turn was killed by Sabir and his associates. Fehmida was also arrested in this murder case.
