Woman gang-raped by husband, friends in car

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by her husband and his two friends in a moving car in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Monday evening. She was later dumped and found unconscious by a passerby. The accused are yet to be arrested.

According to the woman, at the time of the incident she was returning after shopping at a mall in Anand Vihar. While crossing the road outside the mall she was suddenly pulled into a car by her husband and his two friends. The trio took turns to rape her in the moving car and allegedly inserted foreign objects into her private parts.

Shockingly, her husbands allegedly told her it was a ‘punishment’ for filing a police complaint against him and his family.

“During investigations, it was learnt that in March, she had filed a case against her husband and his family in Ghaziabad’s Vijay Vihar area, accusing them of kidnapping and attempt to murder,” the police officer privy to investigation said.

The incident came to light when a passer by noticed her in an unconscious state and informed the police.

A medical examination has been conducted and she is undergoing treatment at Dr Hedgewar hospital.

The couple were initially neighbours in east Delhi’s Ram Nagar area and tied the knot a year ago against their family’s wishes. Soon after the marriage, the duo were involved in frequent fights and started living separately. The woman was in the process of seeking divorce from him. “We are investigating the case from all plausible angles. A case under the relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Anand Vihar police station. The accused are yet to be traced. Raids are being conducted to nab the culprits,” the officer added.
