Woman from Nagaland molested in moving cab

A woman from Nagaland was sexually molested in a moving cab in Gurgaon on Sunday night. The victim was on her way home after work.

The police said the incident occurred at around 8 pm when the victim (21), who works as a sales girl in a cosmetic showroom in DLF Promenade mall at Vasant Kunj, was waiting for a cab after she left the mall. She waited for at least 15 minutes before boarding  a private cab.

After five minutes, the accused asked her to come to the front seat so that other passengers could come on board. The victim obliged accordingly. After some distance, the accused started abusing her physically. The victim initially was unable to do anything, as she was terrified by him. However, after a certain point, she retaliated.

‘When the victim moved ahead to the front seat, the accused began to impress her by introducing himself as Manoj Yadav, an owner of tour and travel company and that owned many cabs running for various BPO’s’, said a senior police official.

The girl began to counter his vulgar attempts and shouted for help as a result. The accused driver pushed her from the moving car in front of Ambience mall on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and sped away from the spot.

With the help of onlookers, the victim then made a PCR call and narrated the entire matter to the police. ‘The victim has received minor injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. The police has registered a case under sections-354 (molestation), 506 (threat to life), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (assault) and 379 (theft) of IPC against the accused driver in DLF Phase-II police station. The accused driver is still on the run and the vehicle involved in the commission of crime is still untraceable. However police have constituted a team to nab the accused.

This is the second incident of molestation in last week against girls from the north east. A 19- year-old restaurant employee was earlier molested by a security guard in Gurgaon’s Ivory tower on the intervening night of 9 and 10 April.
