Police have said that some jewelry was missing from the house.
Police learnt of the incident from the victim’s son at around 4 pm on Thursday. He told police that his mother had been killed and his house robbed. But before informing the police, the family had rushed the woman to a doctor who declared her dead. Only after returning home did her son inform the police. According to the son’s account, the victim, Deepa Tuteja’s body was lying on the bed and with her dupatta tied tightly around her neck. ‘Though the victim’s body did not show much signs of struggle, the dupatta was allegedly tied in eight knots. There were no injury marks on her body except obvious signs of strangulation on the neck,’ said a police officer adding that the woman’s dress was also intact.
Police said it is likely that the woman was forced unconscious before she was strangled with the dupatta. ‘It is too early to determine the exact sequence of events. Whether she was conscious or unconscious at the time of her death will be clear after post-mortem report arrives,’ said the officer.
