A day after the body of an unidentified married woman was found stuffed inside an iron trunk dumped near Anand Vihar metro station, it came to light that the woman was pregnant. Police says it appears to be a case of suicide and that the accused probably left the iron trunk near the Anand Vihar Metro station fearing arrest on charges of abetment to suicide.
Even though Delhi police officials are working on all possible angles, the main line of investigation is heading towards the theory that the woman committed suicide. On Wednesday at around 10.30 am, police officers were informed about an abandoned box lying in a parking area outside Anand Vihar metro station in east Delhi.
Speaking to Millennium Post, a police official close to investigation posted at Madhu Vihar police station said, ‘In the initial investigation, it seems that it is a case of a suicide. In order to evade arrest in a case of abetment to suicide; the accused must have planned to leave the body to decompose. So far it has appeared that the unidentified woman hanged herself as her neck bears injury marks. In a bid to save himself from being caught for provoking or abetment to suicide the whole plan was made in a hurry.’
‘In the initial post-mortem examination it was learnt that the woman was four to five months pregnant. Her body bears some “cut marks” on the wrist that appear quite old. These marks indicate that the woman has attempted suicide earlier,’ the police official added. A tattoo reading ‘PK’ was also found on her right wrist.
The source also added that the accused was planning to leave the iron trunk in a random train at Anand Vihar Railway Station to get rid of the body.
‘To execute this plan, he must have hired public transport from his place till ISBT terminal in east Delhi. When the vehicle stopped outside the metro station, the accused either with the help of the driver or someone accompanying him, may have placed the box near the boundary of the parking area of the metro station.
‘Surprisingly, the area where the box was kept does not come under the coverage of any CCTV camera installed outside the metro station. We have examined all footages, but none of the cameras cover that particular area,’ the official added.
On a daily basis around 5,000 auto-rickshaws used to enter and exit the terminal. A team has been formed, who are questioning each and every driver.
