Woman dies during marriage function after bullet hits head

A 38-year-old woman died in celebratory firing during a pre-marriage function at Greater Noida on Monday evening. The incident was reported at Khatan village under Dadri police station. The deceased, identified as Kamini, was watching the marriage celebrations at her neighbour’s residence from her roof when a bullet hit her in the head. Armed personnel were dancing and celebrating during the marriage ceremony of a local resident’s son.
Police said they have called the video-grapher who was recording the ceremony to identify suspects involved in celebratory firing.
“We have asked Ashok (the father of the groom) and his family to support us in the investigation and give details of their relatives who were present there with arms,” the official added. Police said as many as 15 armed persons were present at the spot when the incident occurred.
At that time, the wedding convoy of Ashok’s son was about to leave the bridegroom’s residence for nearby Jaitpur village. Kamini’s husband, identified as Raju, has lodged an FIR at the Dadri police station against unidentified persons.
“Prima facie, it seems the bullet was fired from a small bore rifle or a heavy bore handgun. The accused will be identified and arrested soon,” the official added.
