Woman councillor faints after being harassed by sweepers

A woman councillor fainted in the office of East DMC commissioner on Tuesday allegedly after being hounded by a sweepers’ leader and his associates, for supporting a a minor gang rape victim. 

Shockingly, none of the officers offered to help her.

The corporation is now planning to install CCTV and deploy private guards to enhance security in the head office and zonal offices.The councillor, Sandhya Verma who is also member in standing committee, broke down while narrating her ordeal in the meeting of the committee on Thursday. 

‘The general people were the ones who rushed me to the hospital as no employee or officer of the corporation helped me,’ said Verma a councillor from Mayur Vihar Phase- I, ward number 220 in east Delhi.
