A lady conductor of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) overcharged a youth and slapped a case of eve-teasing against him after a heated argument over loose change. The police have arrested the accused for sexually harassing the woman conductor.
As per the police complaint, the accused Amit Kumar (23) a student of MCA boarded the DTC bus of route number 33 (Sahahdara to Noida) of bus number DL1 PP 8899 at around 10 am from Ramprastha in East Delhi. He gave a note of Rs 100 to the woman conductor Rajni Rani (27) out of which she deducted Rs 62 and returned Rs 30 in cash. She noted Rs 8 as balance on the back of the ticket and requested the youth to take the money back after some time as she did not have the loose change.
Before alighting from the bus, the youth demanded the money back but she again gave the same excuse of not having the loose.
The woman conductor called the police patrolling party. The conductor lodged a case of sexual harassment against the youth following which he was arrested. ‘The conductor demanded Rs 8,000 as compensation from the boy for wasting her and the bus driver’s four precious hours to take back the complaint,’ said a senior police official.
‘A non-air conditioned bus of DTC can charge from Rs 5 to Rs 15 while an air-conditioned bus could charge from Rs 10 to Rs 25. This seems to be a case of overcharging,’ said a senior officer of DTC.
