Woman commits suicide after justice denied to spouse

In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old woman committed suicide after justice was allegedly denied to her deceased husband. Delhi police has come under the scanner for their inability to deliver justice to her husband, who died in an accident at the factory where he worked.

‘The deceased wife would have been alive, if the cops helped the woman in booking a case of negligence against the factory owner. Instead, a FIR was registered against her husband, which alleged that he was responsible for his own death,’ family members claimed.

The accident took place on Monday at Prestige Light Factory in the Delhi Cantonment area, where Rohan Singh was an employee. At around 11 pm, when he was working on a machine, a wooden wheel attached to the machine detached itself and fell on his head. He became unconscious and fell on the ground. The factory owner and few of his colleagues rushed him to the nearby hospital from, where he was later referred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) hospital.

Few minutes after he was admitted at DDU hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, his wife Asha Devi was informed about the incident. By the time she reached the hospital, doctors had pronounced her husband dead. On Monday, his body was preserved in the mortuary.

In the meantime a FIR was lodged at Delhi Cantonment police station, which alleged that it was Singh’s negligence that had caused his own death. ‘If he would have repaired the wooden wheel, it would not have fallen on him. Action must be taken against Singh’s negligent behaviour,’ the complainant told police. A copy of the FIR is in possession with Millennium Post.

‘The FIR against her husband created tension within Asha Devi. Further, the factory owner identified as Arvinder Singh approached her and had a conversation for about 20 minutes. He pressurised her to not blame him for negligence and threatened her of dire consequences if she filed a cross FIR,’ one of their three sons said.

In the evening, his wife returned home and consumed acid that was kept in her bathroom. She was declared dead on arrival to the hospital.

On Wednesday after the post-mortem reports came out and matter was reported to media persons, Delhi police rushed into action and booked the factory owner. ‘Arvinder had been slapped with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligent conduct with respect to machinery. Also, he has been slapped with the charges of abetment to suicide,’ a police official said.
