According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Sunita and Rajesh. Senior police officers of the West district said that the motive behind the double murder seems to be personal enmity. They have ruled out the angle of robbery as there were no signs of forced entry on the main door, claimed police.
The incident came to light at around 7.30 am when a neighbour saw the blood stained body of Rajesh lying on the terrace of Sunita’s house, said a senior police officer. While Rajesh was found with his throat slit and injury marks on his head, police said that Sunita was found in her room lying on the floor covered with blood. Preliminary investigation suggested that she was hit on her head with a sharp and heavy object.
Investigators said that when they reached the crime scene, they saw that all the doors, especially the main door of the house, were open. Preliminary investigation suggests that there were no signs of ransacking which further indicates that robbery was not the motive behind the double murder. Sources said that Sunita and Rajesh had an illicit relationship.
Locals alleged that after Sunita’s husband expired seven years ago, she used to live at the Vikas Nagar flat given by her in-laws. Survived by two daughters, both of whom are married, and a son, she used to get money from her daughters.
Meanwhile, investigators found that Rajesh, who worked as a driver in a private company, used to live in Rohtak, Haryana and used to reportedly come to Sunita’s flat and also assist her financially.
“A case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered at the Ranhola police station against unknown persons. We are probing the matter from all angles,” said a senior officer.
Police said that they are going through the CCTV footage of the nearby area. They are also scanning the call detail records of both the victims and are also questioning family, friends and locals. Further investigation is still on.
