Woman attempts suicide when boyfriend says no to marriage, critically injured

A 21-year-old Delhi university student tried to commit suicide by jumping from a third floor of a building after a quarrel with her boyfriend over their marriage. The incident was reported from Jwala Heri village in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar around 10 am.

According to the police, the woman wanted to marry her boyfriend Pankaj as soon as possible, but he sought some more time for their wedding. His refusal to marry her soon prompted her to jump from the third floor of the building in which Pankaj was living.

'Soon after she fell on the ground, she was rushed to a hospital where her condition is stated to be critical,' the official added.

Common friends of the duo told police that both were in a relationship for the last four years.

The woman had been visiting Pankaj's room since Saturday and pressurising him to marry her soon. On Monday morning, she arrived again and started insisting that they marry soon but the moment he refused to marry her, she jumped from the third floor were he was residing in a rented accommodation along with two of his friends.

Pankaj hails from Himachal Pradesh and works in a private company in Gurgaon.

The woman is pursuing her Master's in Delhi University and was residing with her family in Jahangirpuri. When cops informed her parents about the incident, they they claimed that they were unaware of her relationship with the boy.
