Woman alleges rape, after lover of six years breaks promise of marriage

A 21-year-old woman in central Delhi’s Hauz Qazi alleged on Friday that she was raped by her neighbour, on the false promise of marriage. The accused, is yet to be arrested.
The woman lives with her family at Hauz Qazi’s Sitar Wali Gali, while the accused has been identified as 30-year-old Asgar Ali, who hails from Lucknow.
'The woman claims that she became friends with the accused six years ago, and Asgar later initiated a physical relation with her, promising marriage,' said a police officer.
Police said that the woman frequently visited Asgar's house, but lately he began to ignore her. It is alleged that the woman started pressurising Asgar for marriage a few months back.
Asgar, however, refused to marry her and fled to Lucknow.
The woman approached police on Thursday after realising that she had been cheated. 'A medical examination has been conducted,' the officer added.
A case of rape has been lodged against Asgar on the basis of the woman’s medical report and statement at Hauz Qazi police station.
'Asgar is absconding and efforts are being made to arrest him. A police team has also been sent to Lucknow to conduct raid at his possible hideout,' the officer added.
