With the passage of Food Security Bill and the Land Acquisition Bill in Lok Sabha, the Congress party has made it clear that its agenda for the 2014 elections would once again be about soothing its trusted vote-bank of aam aadmi. After having ‘educated’ its spokespersons on Food Security Bill, the Congress is now organising a workshop for its spokespersons and TV panelists on the Land Acquisition Bill.
‘The passage of the two important Bills is a clear turn towards the populist direction and as we have not done well so far in wooing the middle class, we are now focusing our energies towards the aam aadmi,’ said a senior Congress leader.
The Congress leader further informed that one of the major handicaps of the party has been inadequate communication with the masses. Through these workshops, it is seeking to redress this problem by explaining the benefits of the legislations to the people. Apart from these two important legislations, the Congress party is hopeful that Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) would also reap dividends for the party in the 2014 elections.
Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh will be holding the workshop, being organised by party general secretary Ajay Maken, on Tuesday. Maken said the idea behind the workshop is to propagate the good work done by UPA and take the positive work of the government to people.
